County of Edinburgh, a four-masted British ship, ran aground ashore at Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., on February 12, 1900. Despite the adverse conditions that caused the ship's plight, Jacobsen depicts a relatively calm scene as locals arrive to take in the spectacle.
